Documentation of sustainability

Nordic Green Engineering offers documentation of the sustainability of your company. By delivering proof of your commitment to responsibility, ensuring traceability of raw materials and products, and demonstrating reductions in greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value chain, we help create added value and enhance the marketability of your products.

What is sustainability certification?

The purpose of sustainability certification is to demonstrate traceability of raw materials and products. In addition, it aims to showcase the reduction of greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, and nitrous oxide) throughout the entire value chain.

Nordic Green Engineering can assist your business in achieving sustainability certification.

The certification follows your sustainable product throughout the entire value chain of bio-based raw material. It also covers types of agricultural and forestry raw materials, food, bio-based products, chemical/technical substances and other areas where practical use of biomass is possible.

In the manufacturing and service sectors, sustainability certification can document the overall climate impact of a business. This documentation can be directly used with customers and in climate marketing efforts. Furthermore, the certification and documentation act as safeguards against “greenwashing.”

The international standards

We document and work with sustainability based on these international standards:

  • ISCC PLUS
The International Sustainability & Carbon Certification standard covers areas not included under the Renewable Energy Directive II, such as food, feed and industrial applications.
  • ISCC EU
International Sustainability & Carbon Certification is a European standard that follows the Renewable Energy Directive II and is one of the most widely used for biogas, food production and general trade in raw materials. It simplifies the integration of non-agricultural biomasses, such as glycerin, into the system.
Our biogas specialists have extensive experience certifying a wide range of biomasses, ensuring the inclusion of as many biomasses as possible in the certification process. We assist from start to finish, managing external audits both before and after certification.
  • Nature Made Star
Nature Made Star is a Swiss standard. IIts core principle of continuous improvement helps businesses enhance their environmental positioning, improve credibility, and achieve their goals. This standard is recognized by the Swiss Energy Agency for Industry and the Energiestadt program.
  • REDCert
REDcert, a German certification system, offers schemes for sustainable biomass, biofuels, and liquid materials (REDcert-DE and REDcert-EU), as well as sustainable agricultural raw materials for food/feed industries and biomass applications in the chemical industry (REDcert²). Its philosophy supports participants in implementing sustainability certification through a practical, user-oriented approach.

Choosing the right standard

We provide tailored advice on selecting the most suitable standard for your business, as each standard has specific strengths in terms of content and geographic relevance. Regardless of the chosen standard, the following elements must be prepared before a third-party audit—an area where Nordic Green Engineering offers full support:

  • Management manual describing the company, its organization and processes.
  • Internal audit where we “stress test” whether descriptions of processes and data management align with reality and meet the standard’s requirements.
  • Greenhouse gas calculations where the company’s CO2 impact is continuously documented.
  • Sustainability declarations.

Forecast your CI score

Based on biomass inputs and technology choices (e.g., upgrading, preprocessing, etc.), Nordic Green Engineering can provide a forecast of the CI score for your biogas plant’s batch.

This tool helps address one of the key aspects of the business case that can often be challenging to estimate.

If you’re considering having your facility certified or have questions about the various sustainability certifications, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We believe that secure and sustainable energy is the way forward.
