Environment & Permits

At Nordic Green Engineering we provide expert consulting on environmental issues and regulatory processes related to the establishment and expansion of production facilities across various industries. We have extensive experience with biogas plants. In addition, we offer our expertise in other areas of the energy sector, industry, agriculture, and for sustainable solutions in connection with the green transition.

Application for environmental approval

An environmental permit is fundamentally the authorization granted by the municipality under the Environmental Protection Act, which a company must comply with in its operations. The process of obtaining an environmental permit is often associated with conditions that the company must adhere to in order to maintain its approval for production.

We assist companies in applying for environmental permits and ensure reasonable terms are included in the document. At the same time, we provide both the company and its employees with a clear understanding of the terms outlined in the permit through guidance throughout the process.

EIA approval and environmental impact report

Before major projects in the energy and production sectors can be initiated, the potiential environmental impacts of the project – including human health – must be assessed. Based on this initial screening, the municipality will determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required for the project.

The EIA describes the significant environmental impacts of the project. It allows for setting requirements for the project’s design, ensuring that negative environmental consequences are avoided as much as possible.

An Environmental Impact Assessment is comprehensive and typically involves a longer process, including public engagement through hearings and possible community meetings.

Nordic Green Engineering can assist with the preparation of all materials, from screening to Environmental Impact Assessment, liaising with authorities and participating in community meetings.

Local plan and associated environmental report

We handle the task of preparing drafts for local plans, municipal plan amendments, and environmental reports. This is often necessary when establishing or expanding new or existing plants for biogas, solar power plants, industry, or other sectors. We also ensure that potential future changes are taken into account.

The local plan outlines the framework for how subdivision, construction, lighting, road access, and undeveloped areas should be used and designed. Therefore, a local plan can serve as a tool that both regulates current plans and at the same time extends several years ahead in relation to the development of the facility.

Preparing a local plan and environmental report is a time-consuming process. Nordic Green Engineering can save you time by assisting in drafting local plan proposals and the associated environmental report, while simultaneously preparing the Environmental Impact Assessment. We ensure that the project is completed on time and at a fixed price, agreed upon in advance.

Application for rural zone permits

In connection with the establishment and/or development of businesses in the open countryside, it is often necessary to obtain a land use permit before a project can begin. Compared to a local plan, a land use permit is a more short-term planning tool. It regulates specific elements of a construction project and grants the developer permission to proceed in accordance with zoning laws.

Nordic Green Engineering prepares applications for land use permits once the environmental approval and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) are in place. Through thorough preparation – for example, by holding community meetings with or without the municipality before applying for permits – we aim to safeguard all interests in the project design, minimizing the risk of complaints.

Preparation of environmental management system

As a condition of their environmental approval, an increasing number of companies are required to implement an environmental management system, which, in short, involves organizing their work around environmental impact. This includes mapping the company’s environmental aspects and developing a formal policy in this area, including how they aim to reduce their footprint on the surrounding environment.

Nordic Green Engineering can assist companies in establishing an environmental management system and provide guidance on the opportunities available to reduce environmental impact both in the short and long term. A company can often gain significant benefits by reducing its environmental footprint – for example, in the form of lower costs or a better relationship with the local community. In this way, the environmental management system can become an asset for the company.

Other applications regarding
environment and safety

In addition to the above, we can also assist with preparing a range of other applications related to a company’s work on safety aspects concerning the environment. This may include a §19 application under the Environmental Protection Act or a §44 application for a spraying permit under the wastewater regulations.

Finally, at Nordic Green Engineering, we also have extensive experience in drafting safety documents. These include occupational health and safety, risk assessments, workplace assessments (APV’s), and the development of electronic data collection solutions.
