Safety

At Nordic Green Engineering, we can assist with all administrative processes and approvals regarding safety and working environment. These may occur in connection with new production facilities to be established or when existing ones are to be expanded – possibly according to stricter requirements.

The area of safety and risk is complex, but we can guide you through it. We help you prepare safety documentation, implement a systematic safety management system and provide an understanding of the requirements that come with approval as a Column II or III company (this approval indicates how much hazardous substances are stored at the company. A Column III company therefore stores a larger amount of hazardous substances than a Column II company).

Risk

When industry or agriculture manufactures, stores or uses large quantities of toxic, flammable or explosive substances, including biogas, it can lead to major accidents with serious consequences for people and the environment inside and outside the company.

A company that works with these substances must be approved as a column II or III company. In addition, they must be able to document to the authorities that they have reviewed their operations and layout to identify where major accidents with hazardous substances can occur. They must also document that the probability of and consequences of any accidents are acceptable, given the safety barriers the company has – or will establish. The company must also document to the Risk Authority that it works systematically and continuously with risk factors.

We can help your Column II company get the safety document or report in place if we are in Column III.

Prevention of major accidents in and around companies where dangerous substances occur, as well as rules regarding limiting the consequences of major accidents, are handled in the Seveso III Directive (see the Risk Executive Order).

Preparation of risk assessment

Before the construction or expansion of a gas plant or process installation, a comprehensive risk assessment must be carried out. This must take into account all reasonably foreseeable risks associated with the installation in question. The risk assessment is an essential part of the documentation for the process installation. The risk assessment must be updated when changes are made to the installation and kept together with the other documentation throughout the lifetime of the installation.

We help the company prepare the risk assessment. This is done through thorough sparring to provide an understanding of the requirements that come with the approval. These include the requirements for submitting a notification and commissioning notification to the Danish Safety Technology Authority, which continuously supervises gas plants and installations in Denmark.

Please note, however, that we do not carry out risk assessments in accordance with the Machinery Directive.

Preparation of APV

A workplace assessment (APV) is a company’s tool to get control of the working environment through a systematic and effective effort. Nordic Green Engineering can help map the company’s working environment and find areas where changes or updates to existing conditions may be needed.

Specifically, we can help prepare an APV for the company, and we can help the company understand the processes behind a good working environment. We can also provide tools for ongoing assessments of the working environment in the company.

In this way, we can contribute to your company achieving a better working environment and increased well-being. If we include sick leave in the APV, it will be easier to identify the working environment problems that can lead to high sick leave.

Development and maintenance of safety management systems

As part of the work of supervising both safety and the working environment in the company, the APV can be advantageously linked to the company’s safety management system. The system should bring together the procedures that form the basis of the company’s work to anticipate and prevent major accidents. In this way, the company’s obligations to employees and the safety culture that it wants to support are reflected.

Nordic Green Engineering can help identify and assess the various risks for major accidents and assign tasks and responsibilities to employees who are responsible for preventing these accidents in the company. In addition, we can assist in determining and implementing the procedures needed to ensure stable and safe operations and to handle any operational outages.

The safety management system must of course be maintained and updated when there are changes in production, expansions, other types of reassignments or the like. We can also help with that. In general, we at Nordic Green Engineering would like to help operate and maintain your systems and in this way ensure real value in your daily work. Finally, we can also advise on environmental conditions and regulatory processing in connection with the establishment and expansion of production plants in both the biogas industry and other industries.
