Environment & Permits

At Nordic Green Engineering we can handle and advise on environmental issues and regulatory processing in connection with the establishment and expansion of production plants in a number of industries. We have extensive experience with biogas plants. In addition, we can also offer our expertise within other branches of the energy sector, industry, agriculture and for sustainable solutions in connection with the green transition.

Application for environmental approval

An environmental permit is basically the permit that the municipality grants according to the rules of the Environmental Protection Act, and that a company must organize its operations according to. The preparation of an environmental permit will often be associated with the fact that conditions are set in the permit that the company must comply with in order to maintain its approval to produce.

We help the company apply for environmental approval, and we ensure reasonable terms in the document. At the same time, we provide both the company and employees with an understanding of the terms that apply in the approval through sparring about the process.

EIA approval and environmental impact report

Before major projects in the energy and production sectors can be initiated, they must highlight the possible effects the project could have on the environment – including human health. Based on the initial assessment of the impacts on the environment, the municipality will assess whether there is a need to prepare an environmental impact report in connection with the project.

The environmental impact report describes the most significant environmental consequences. It makes it possible to set requirements for the design of the project so that negative environmental consequences are avoided as far as possible.

An environmental impact report is comprehensive, and it will typically take a longer time – including involving the public in connection with hearings and possible citizen meetings.

Nordic Green Engineering can assist with the preparation of all material from screening to environmental impact report.

Local plan and associated environmental report

We undertake the task of preparing draft local plans, municipal plan supplements and environmental reports. This will often be necessary when establishing or expanding new or existing plants for biogas, solar cells, industry or other industries, and they can also take into account future changes.

The local plan sets the framework for how subdivision, development, lighting, road access and undeveloped areas are to be used and designed. A local plan can therefore be a tool that both regulates the most current plans and at the same time extends several years ahead in relation to the development of the facility.

Preparing a local plan and environmental report is a time-consuming affair. Nordic Green Engineering can save you time by assisting in preparing a local plan proposal and the associated environmental report at the same time as preparing the environmental impact report. We ensure that the project is completed on time and at a fixed price that is agreed in advance.

Application for rural zone permits

In connection with the establishment and/or development of businesses in the open countryside (rural zone), a rural zone permit will often be necessary before a project can begin. Compared to a local plan, a rural zone permit is a more short-term planning tool. This regulates very specific construction elements on a building and gives the developer permission for the construction in relation to the Planning Act.

Nordic Green Engineering prepares an application for a rural zone permit once the environmental approval and the EIA report are in place. And with thorough preparation – for example by holding citizen meetings with or without the municipality before applying for permits – we try to safeguard everyone’s interests in project design, so that the risk of complaints is as low as possible.

Preparation of environmental management system

As a condition of their environmental approval, an increasing number of companies must have an environmental management system, which in short is about putting their work around the impact on the environment into a system. This means that the company maps out its environmental conditions and formulates an actual policy in the area. Including how they want to reduce the company’s footprint on the surrounding environment.

Nordic Green Engineering can help the company establish an environmental management system and provide advice on the potential and opportunities the company has to reduce its environmental footprint in the short and long term. A company can often reap significant benefits by reducing its environmental footprint – for example in the form of lower costs or a better relationship with the local area. In this way, the environmental management system can become an asset for the company.

Other applications regarding
environment and safety

In addition to the above, we can also help prepare a number of other applications related to a company’s work with environmental safety issues. This could be, for example, a Section 19 application under the Environmental Protection Act or a Section 44 application for a sprinkling permit under the Wastewater Executive Order.

Finally, we at Nordic Green Engineering also have extensive experience in drafting safety documents. These cover working environment, risk assessments, APVs and preparing electronic data collection solutions.

We believe that secure and sustainable energy is the way forward
